COVID-19, better known as the Coronavirus, has impacted the world. Nearly half a million people worldwide have been diagnosed with the virus. Every day the case count grows at an alarming rate.
D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser announced an order yesterday that all non-essential businesses must close. Bowser calls for this order in hopes that people will remain in their homes during the pandemic outbreak. This has caused several businesses to temporarily shut down, which will ultimately put people out of work and in difficult financial situations.
Although professional sports have been postponed, D.C. sports broadcasters have begun the initiative to help those in need, Voices of D.C. Sports: Helping to Feed the City.
Participants include broadcasters from the National Hockey League’s Washington Capitals, Major League Soccer’s D.C. United, Major League Baseball’s Washington Nationals, National Football League’s Washington Redskins, and National Basketball Association’s Washington Wizards.
The Broadcasters are using the platform Cameo. Through Cameo, fans can request a specific broadcaster to record a personalized message for a minimum donation of $25. Proceeds will benefit DC Central Kitchen, the Capital Area Food Bank, and Martha’s Table.
As of today, you can request a personalized video from the broadcasters listed below. You can click their names, which are linked to their cameo pages.
