The Wizards (9-22) are set to take on the Heat (24-8) in game two of their six game homestand.
The last time these two teams played was on December 6, a game that resulted in a 103-112 Wizards loss. However, a lot has changed since that game. For starters, the Wizards are missing four players that were key in that game.
One player in particular that the Wizards are missing is Bradley Beal. Beal has been the main reason why the Wizards are relevant this season, averaging 27.8 points per game. As it stands, he remains questionable for tonight’s game with a right leg injury that he suffered in the fourth quarter against the Knicks on Saturday.
The Wizards have not been able to get wins against teams that are near the same record as them. Now facing a potential championship contender in the Miami Heat, it will be difficult for the Wizards to get a win especially with four of their key players being out for this game.
Match-up to watch
Can recently acquired Wizard Gary “The Mitten” Payton II slow down Heat rookie Kendrick Nunn? Nunn, one of the surprises of this NBA season, is averaging 16.1 points and 3.6 assists per game. The Heat rely on him to pace their offense so it is important for someone on the Wizards to make life tough for him.
Bradley Beal: Leg, Questionable
Davis Bertans: Quad, Out
Thomas Bryant: Foot, Out
Rui Hachimura: Groin, Out
CJ Miles: Wrist, Out
Mortiz Wagner: Ankle, Out
John Wall: Achilles, Out
Justise Winslow: Back bruise, Out
Moneyline- Wizards (+350) Heat (-430)
Against the spread- Wizards (+8.5)
If I had to place a bet on this game, I would go with the Heat -8.5. The Wizards are very shorthanded tonight and I believe it will get ugly fast. Another reason is that because the Heat are on a five-game winning streak, they will have a lot of momentum heading into this game.
Finally, the Heat has already beaten the Wizards once with a healthy roster so it should be easier this time around. The Wizards rank 30th in scoring defense and the Heat rank 8th in scoring offense. So, this means that the Heat will win 124-112.
