In their second game back after a Christmas lay-off, the Capital City Go-Go edged out a 117-115 win over the Windy City Bulls Sunday night. Capital City was coming off another close victory against the Maine Red Claws on Friday, 117-116. They have now won two in a row.
The Go-Go are go back to .500 at 9-9, which is good for 8th place in the East. Windy City dropped their second straight and fell to 9-9 as well. The Go-Go will continue their home-stand against Fort Wayne on Friday.
The game began with a Mike Cobbins layup for the Go-Go. Both teams traded baskets for much of the 1st quarter, with the Bulls taking a 31-29 lead towards the end. Neither ball club really got out in front to a sizable lead.
Windy City managed to stretch it out to 53-45 with 2:51 left in the 1st half. The Go-Go answered back with buckets of their own to make it 57-52 Bulls at half-time.
The Bulls got it to an 8-point lead once more, after a three-pointer from former Memphis Tiger Ferrakohn Hall at the 9:41 mark of the 3rd. Admiral Schofield responded with a layup, the first of two consecutive buckets for the Go-Go. This cut the lead to two.
Chris Chiozza headed to the line later on and made both free throws to give Capital City the lead, 69-68. The Go-Go held on to their lead the rest of the quarter and headed to the 4th up 91-89.
The Go-Go came out firing and sprinted ahead by 9 points. A Justin Robinson 3-pointer made it 105-95. But the Bulls weathered the storm and roared back to make it a four-point game.
Guard Justin Simon made a clutch layup for the Bulls, which tied the game at 115-all with 10.2 seconds to go in the game. However, Jerian Grant was determined to end the game then and to send everyone home on time. Justin Robinson found Grant for a jump-shot, and the former Notre Dame star hit a dagger with 1.4 seconds left to give the Go-Go the win.
Windy City was led by power forward PJ Dozier, who went off for 27 points while adding in 14 rebounds and 11 assists. Mike Cobbins had an impressive 30 points for the Go-Go, and also contributed 17 rebounds.
