Today, the Washington Wizards will be facing the Sacramento Kings at 6 PM Eastern on NBC Sports Washington. The Wizards have been winners of their last two games and will look to extend their winning streak to three. As for the Kings, they are coming off of a painful 116-97 loss to the Brooklyn Nets.
Which Wizards team will we see today?
This is the big question entering today. By which Wizards team, I am implying that we have seen two different teams so far this season. The first is the offensive juggernaut we have seen so far this season. This team currently ranks second in total offense behind the Milwaukee Bucks. This means that the Wizards consistently put up point totals in the low 130s, high 120s range. As we saw last time against Charlotte, the Wizards were also able to get stops at crucial periods in the game. This is a team that can win a lot of games if they play that way.
However, there is the second type of Wizards team. This team is the one that plays lackluster defense and while most games are close, you cannot win a game if you do not play defense at all. The Wizards currently rank 29th on defense and that will need to change in order for them to win more games. A slight adjustment from Scott Brooks could be the difference between being a playoff contender or being a playoff pretender.
What will happen?
Facing Sacramento on Sunday hopefully should lead the Wizards to their third win in a row. This is because the Kings are ranked 27th in points per game which means Washington should be able to outscore them if this game becomes a shootout. Coming out strong and having a very productive night from the bench will be the difference in this one. The big factors in this one will be Davis Bertans and his team-leading offensive rating of 125.4. Another big factor will be Thomas Bryant and his impactful high energy. Lastly, Bradley Beal is always a big factor as he is the primary reason why this team is currently tied with the Orlando Magic for the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference.
