The Wizards will look to extend their win “streak” to two games tonight against the Miami Heat. The game will tip-off at 7:30 p.m. in Miami. The last time these two teams played was on December 30th, when the Wizards won 123-105. This was arguably their best game of the season, playing without several key players, including Bradley Beal.
The Wizards are 14-28 on the season, which is good for 11th place in the Eastern Conference. They are 4-6 in their last ten games. Their most recent game was a 106-100 win against the Detroit Pistons.
Their opponents tonight, the Miami Heat, are having a drastically different season. The Heat are 30-13 overall, which is good for second place in the Eastern Conference. The Heat are winners of six of their last ten games. They also won their last game, squeaking out a 118-113 victory against the Sacramento Kings.
The marquee match-up is Bradley Beal against Jimmy Butler. Butler went for 27 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists in their previous game. Bradley Beal missed the game due to an injury. Beal has not been particularly efficient in his last several games since returning to the lineup. It will be interesting to see if he can right the ship while being defended by someone of Butler’s stature.
The Wizards’ shooting guards had success in their previous match-up with the Heat. Jordan McRae had arguably the best game of his career, going for 29 points, 4 rebounds, and 8 assists. Garrison Mathews also exploded for 28 points. It will be extremely interesting to see if Beal can duplicate or even exceed that level of success.
Other things to watch for
- Ian Mahinmi had one of the best games of his career in their last game with 25 points and 5 rebounds. With Pasecniks questionable, Mahinmi will likely see a heavy workload again tonight. Can we slow down Bam Adebayo who had 14 points and 14 rebounds last time?
- The Wizards got unlikely production from several players before but have a majority of their starters back for this one. How will Thomas Bryant and Davis Bertans match-up against the athletic front-line of the Heat?
- The Miami Heat are 8th in offense and 14th in defense, per Cleaning the Glass. Over the last two weeks, they are 5th in offense and 20th in defense.
- The Wizards are 12th in offense and 30th in defense, per Cleaning the Glass. Over the last two weeks, they are 26th in offense and 25th in defense.
