Basketball fans wanted to get a first look at the Kevin Durant/Kyrie Irving led Brooklyn Nets. Wizards fans were waiting to see how Deni Avdija will look in his first time on an NBA court. Both sides got what they wanted.
In just 17 minutes, Kyrie Irving scored 18 points on 7 of 9 shooting from the field. Kevin Durant scored 15 points on 5 of 12 shooting in just 23 minutes. Although this is just pre season, it was nice to see Kevin Durant back on an NBA court.
Deni Avdija scored 15 points on 6 for 6 shooting from the field. Half of those field goal attempts were three pointers.
Washington went into this game without Russell Westbrook and Bradley Beal. At first the absence of Westbrook and Beal proved to be too much, as Washington at one point trailed by 26 points.
But due to a well balanced effort with everyone in the starting lineup scoring in double figures, Washington was able to claw their way back into the game. Rui Hachimura scored 18 points and displayed a solid looking jump shot from three point range, going 3 for 4.
Troy Brown Jr had a solid all around game with 14 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists. Thomas Bryant and Raul Neto scored 10 and 17 points respectively.
Washington had solid contribution from the bench, with Garrison Matthews and Moe Wagner scoring 10 and 13 points respectively.
The well balanced attack from Washington wasn’t enough as Brooklyn was able to escape with the win.
Upcoming schedule for Washington
The Wizards are back in action on Thursday as they get set to take on the Detroit Pistons. That game will tip off at 7:00 pm. Both teams will face each other again on Saturday December 19.
